Well sounds like we are in for another winter storm....again! I have been in one of those funks that are caused by a winter that won't quit, whinny kids and to much to do and no desire to do it. I guesse that is what they call the "Winter Blues". So needless to say I have not gotten any pages done in the last few weeks but I am going tho throw out a challenge anyway just in case some of you are more motivated than I am. Here it is!!
Take 5 photos of the town you live in. They can be of buildings, nature, your home anything in your town. Use all 5 on your page.

New Weekly Challenge ~ Get Organized Challenge!!! ~ Week #1
Sometimes a good challenge gets us off our butt and helps us get moving forward. I know I would like to be more organized as I am sure everyone does. Scrapbooking stuff gets unorganized pretty fast if you don't keep up on it so I thought a weekly challenge might get us organized a little bit at a time. So here is this weeks challenge!!
Fiber & Fabric Organizing
Get creative and find a all your fiber and fabric you use for your scrapping gather it all up in one place. Now sort out what you will never use and either save it for a swap ( it is a good idea to put all your swap stuff in one place like a small box so when you do a swap you will be ready) or donate it. Now comes the hard part. Put on your thinking cap and think of some creative ways to store all your fiber and fabric. You will love the new organized stash and you will find things you forgot you had .
Don't forget to post your creative ideas in the comments and in group for all of us to share. Also take a picture of your newly organized stuff and post it in the group album and I will grab them up and post them in the blog.
GOOD LUCK!!!

How to Download a Digital Scrapbooking Freebie
Last weeks challenge involved downloading digital freebies. I had a few questions on how to do this. It is not very hard so I will do my best to explain it so bear with me if I totally confuse you. I am not to good at computer geek speak LOL! Here goes!
First thing find a free kit or element you want to download. Lots of digital designers offer free kits to help get people to buy their kits. Most kits are very reasonably priced and think of them as supplies that NEVER run out. Lots of designers offer freebies in their blogs too. One blog I like is Designs That Rawk!. She does awesome work & thanks so much for the freebies. One of her new freebies is Cora by Amanda Roberts. So go to her blog to find it.
Now click on Download 4 Share under the picture of the kit. Most downloads have an area that says download here or click on the kits picture to start to download.
Now when you click on the download link it will either take you to the area to download or it will open the box to download. For this kit it opens up the 4 Shared Free File Sharing site. Scroll down a bit and you will see Download File underlined click on that. You computers file download box will pop up. Now click on Save. The Save As box will pop up. Pick where you would like to save the file. I have a special folder just for my digital scrapbooking items and I download it into there. Click save and your download will start. Most downloads take between a few minutes to 30 or 40 minutes depending on the size of the file. This one will take my computer appx 20 minutes. It may take you less if you are on a high speed connection. I am just one step up from dial up so it takes me a little longer.
After you finish downloading the file go to the folder where you downloaded it and you will see a zip file there. Double click on the zip file, click extract all files and the extraction wizard will pop up. Click next and pick the place you would like to extract it to. I have folders for paper kit ect. Now click next again and it will extract the file to the place you would like it. After it is extracted I delete the zip file since I do not need it anymore and it help saves space on the computer. Now you can click on the folder and open it up and look at all the goodies.
When you use the freebies and publish it anywhere including your blog be sure to note the designers to pay them the credit they are due. These designers are very talented and to give their work away is so kind so give them the thanks they deserve. Also be sure to read the info that comes with the kit on how you can use the product.
WOW! Now if you are not thoroughly confused go get some freebies!! But don't blame me when you are a total addict like myself LOL!!
If I have you confused just ask me and I will try to help you out.
Here is a fab blog that is a great guide to freebies.

Princess Rachel ~ Digital Page
I made this 8x8 page with digital elements I downloaded from Miss BonBon (thanks for the fab freebie!!). I made it 8x8 because I do not have a 12 x12 printer. I used my scrapbook Factory Deluxe (I found it at Goodwill, new in box, for only.....$2!!! My buy of the year!!) program to put it all together. I think it turned out super cute!
Photos of Week #3 Challenge
WHOO HOOO I Got It Done!!! I am not sure I like how it turned out but it is done!! Here it is:
I created my own circle stamp to do the paint circles & I used a circle cutter with a craft knife to make all the paper circles. I used The Gimp photo editing software (this is a free software I downloaded & it is a lot like PaintShop. Google The Gimp to find this software.) I really love how the photo turned out. I found yellow and red to be a hard combination to use.

My Weekend Project #2 ~ Altered Recipe Box
My second project for the weekend was an altered recipe box. I absolutely love how this turned out! I bought a wooded recipe box from Goodwill for $1. It was kind of ugly with a resin thing on the front. I wish I would have taken a photo of the box before I started. But take my word for it it was ugly. I started out by taking off the resin thing and sanding it down a bit. Then I gave it a coat of Gesso. This helps the paint to stick well later.
Then I painted it pink, very pink! Now don't go screaming from the room yet!!
Then I painted it with a crackle medium. This is clear and when you paint over it with next coat of paint the paint will crack into a weathered looking finish. Reveling the color underneath.
Then I cut out my patterned paper and inked the edges. I used a tacky glue that I thinned with water to decoupage the paper on the box. I used a brayer to help to smooth down the paper and get out the air bubbles. After the paper dried I put a glue coating over the top of it.
After this was very dry I gave the whole box a coating of clear varnish that was tinted with acrylic paint. This gave the box an antiqued finish.
I made embellishments for the front of the box out of a laminate sample, a lid off of Pillsbury cinnamon rolls stickers, clear sealer and a few micro beads. Then I antiqued them with the same thing I used on the box.
I attached the embellishments to the front pop dots. This project was my first of this nature and I think it turned out super!! I LOVE it! Next weekend I plan to make the divider cards for the inside.
Let me know what you think of this project! I am going to keep it by my computer to keep recipes and scrapbooking tips I find while surfing the net.

My Weekend Project #1 ~ Photo Candle
The altered scrapbooking bug has hit me this weekend. I had seen in Donna Downey's book photo decor a great photo candle. I decided I would try and make one for my bedroom. I found a great heart shaped candle at Hobby Lobby & I knew I had the rest of the stuff in my stash to make this project. So I got started
I gathered up my supplies: candle, photo, flower shaped eyelets, black sharpie, square templates, plaque & ribbon.
I cut out my photo and rounded the corners with my corner rounder. I punched holes in the corners and added flower eyelets. I used the heat gun to warm up the wax a little and pressed the eyelets into the wax. I did the same for the plaque. Then I wrapped the ribbon around the candle and warmed up the wax and it soaked into the ribbon adhering it to the candle.
I love how this came out. I will burn the candle down just until there is enough of an indentation for a tea lite to fit in, then I will just burn the tea lite to save the candle.
Hope you like my project.

My Scrapbooking Cabinet
Since I have been thinking about scrapbook organization I thought I would post my scrapbooking cabinet for you all to see. This is the most organized I have been in a long time but it can still use a little work. My husband does woodworking so I am a very lucky woman to have a guy who can make me such a nice cabinet. He made this cabinet to sell but since it never sold and was just out in our shed I had him bring it in for me to put all my scrapbooking stuff in. Works great and it is nice to have most of my stuff in one place. I say MOST because like other scrapbookers I tend to accumulate items pretty quickly LOL!
The cabinet, notice the locks to keep out my little girl. She is into everything!
Inside the top section I use baskets to keep items together. The pink basket holds fabrics and fibers. The cream colored basket hold misc. items that need to be put away. the small wicker basket holds items I use alot, like my cutter, eyelet setter, black pens etc.
The drawers hold all my punches. My little girl loves to play with these.
The bottom section of the cabinet holds my paper, colored pens, chalks and some of my rubber stamping items.
When I get ready to scrap I usually do it on the kitchen table or I have a card table I set up in the living room so I can watch TV too. Hope you enjoyed a look at my scrappin storage.

Two Rockin' Books
You know when you find a book you love you just want to tell everyone. Well I just got two books that really rock! They are:
Decorative Journals by Donna Downey
&
Photo Decor by Donna Downey
These books are great! Each book has 25 creative projects to take your scrapbooking to a whole new level.
I bought mine at Joann's and used the 40% off coupon on the back of their flyer. This is a super way to save on all your favorite books.
Her photo decor book has this very cute photo display made out of a muffin tin. I picked up a muffin tin at Dollar Tree and I am going to make one for my kitchen. I will post some photos when I get it done.

Organizing For A New Year
Like everyone else I set goal for the new year every year and they kind of fall by the wayside by March. I never give up though and always try to set new goal when the old ones fade away. This year one of the goal I have set for my scrapbooking is to be more organized so I can get more pages accomplished. I'm sure some of you have the same goal in mind to but have no idea where to start. Here are a few ideas to help you get started.
1. Don't get overwhelmed! If you are like me you buy stuff, wonderful stuff, and take it home and stash it (still in the bag) somewhere never to be seen again. It is OK we all do it! But it is overwhelming to think about putting all that stuff in a home of it's own.
2. Start small. Pick an area and work in that area for 15 minutes. Set a timer and start to sort this small area. Try not to get distracted by trying to put stuff away yet, just sort.
3. Sort into 3 categories: Get 3 BIG boxes
Keep (things you love and KNOW you will use)
Get Rid Off (Things that are not your style anymore and you know you will never use)
Not Sure (Things you are not sure you will use but still like)
4. Just continue doing 15 minute increments until you are done or you get worn out or run out of work time.
5. Now that you have your stuff sorted into your 3 piles (hopefully in boxes) Take the Get Rid Of box and decide what you can use for swaps, what you will donate or sell and if any needs to be just thrown out.
Some great ideas for swaps are:
Online groups: Lots of these groups have monthly swaps for there members.
Hold a swap party with you friends. Get all your scappin friends together and swap stuff you don't want. Fun way to get new stuff!!
Donate your items to schools, daycare or retirement homes. These places welcome items that they can use for crafts.
Sell your items at a garage sale or online. Good way to make a little extra cash to buy things you will use.
6. Take the Not Sure box and set it aside for now. After you get organized you can go through it again and see if you want to keep any of the things. Sort it just like you did before: Keep, Get Rid Off & Not Sure. Then just set the Not Sure box aside for another day until you have no more Not Sure stuff.
7. Now to make a home for all the stuff you want to keep. This can be tough especially if you live in a small home like me and can't have a dream scrapbooking room (I would love one of those!!). In the next few weeks I will list creative ways to store your scrapbooking supplies. But for now find a place to keep your stuff that is easy to get to. If it is hard to get to you won't use it and you won't put your new stuff away.
I hope this gives you a small start on your New Year's organization. Most of all be patient!! It did not become a mess overnight and you can get it organized overnight (well maybe but you will be to tired to enjoy your success LOL!)
If anyone has some tips on organizing feel free to post them in the comments. We would all love some new tips!!

Wrappin' Up Christmas
Well I'm starting to get things for Christmas under wraps (so to speak LOL!!). I made a altered composition book for Max's teacher and a sticky note holder for Rachel's babysitter and 38 Snowman Soups. Whew! I took pictures of the notebook and the note holder and will post them probably after Christmas. I hope you all are getting close to wrapping up your Christmas too.
Have a VERY Merry Christmas!!

Another Scrappy Gift Idea
As I was making my way through the crowded mall this weekend I realized just how nice it is to make your own gifts. I found this great idea for a very cute sticky note desk stand. So take a look and maybe you will be able to avoid that super crowded mall too!!
Sticky Note Desk Stand
This would make a very cute teachers or babysitters gift.

Scrap Paper Ornament
As scrappers we have a lot of small scraps of pretty paper we absolutely hate to just throw away. I found a fun way to use up some of your scraps and create great ornaments for Christmas. These would make fun secret Santa gifts. Check out the link:

Color Scheme Generator
Do you ever have trouble picking colors for your page? I am not very good at picking colors and tend to stick with safe color schemes. There is a site that has a tool for making web pages that would also be a very valuable tool for scrapbooking. The Color Scheme Generator will help design your page by using the color wheel. Try it out and see if you like it, I loved it!!

Journal Jars
I have been on the hunt for creative gift ideas for Christmas. As I was searching I ran across journal jars. It is a simple gift, all you need is a jar (or any type of pretty container would be nice too), slips of paper you have printed questions on (use some pretty colored scrapbooking paper) and a pretty journal to write in. I found a great site that had the questions free to print.
Organized Christmas
They have one for adults and one for kids. I printed out one for me. I think it will make a nice journal of my life. I think I will make one for my 9 year old son and then make a scrapbook of his answers.
I was also thinking of a jar of scrapbooking ideas for getting your ideas flowing. This would make a fun gift for you scrapbooking friends. Just print out slips with different page ideas, embellishment uses ect. Such as dangle a charm from a title.

I was also thinking of a jar of scrapbooking ideas for getting your ideas flowing. This would make a fun gift for you scrapbooking friends. Just print out slips with different page ideas, embellishment uses ect. Such as dangle a charm from a title.
Here are a few ideas I found:

Templates Templates Templates!!!
Making cards and scrapbooking kind of go hand in hand. I started off rubberstamping before I started scrapbooking. I made handmade birth announcements for my son when he was born. I have not made may cards the last few years but when I do I like to use templates to make different shaped and folded cards. I found a wonderful resource for templates at this site. Some of the templates would work on scrapbook pages also. Take a look and maybe you will be inspired to make some special cards for you family this holiday season.

I am constantly trying to stay organized in all aspects of my life. It is a tough chore but finding new organizing ideas is half of the fun. I found a wonderful article about creating a space saving CD to help keep all the scrapbooking info you collect organized. I am not sure I would scan all my paper info but I think I would use this idea to help organize all the great info I collect off of the internet. Take a look at this article and see if it would help you get organized. Would work for lots of other things like recipes, organizing tips & craft articles too!

Another Scrappy Gift Idea
I am on a roll thinking of things to make this Christmas. I love to make thing for my friends and family. Not only do handmade gifts have an extra touch of caring they also can save you a few bucks too.
One of my ideas is altered lunch boxes. You can buy these pretty cheap at Hobby Lobby or JoAnns. You will also need scrapbook paper, embellishments, modge podge and hot glue gun. I will load some links at the end that have more detailed instructions on making these lunch boxes. They also have some fun ideas on how to use them. I like the ideas for recipes boxes and dates to remember. I think I will make mine for my son's teacher and my daughter's babysitter. Now I just have to get started. I will post some photos when i get them done.

Scrappin' Gift Ideas
I know I know Thanksgiving is not even here yet but time flies when you are having fun. So now is the time to start thinking about gifts for you friends and family. This year I am making a book by Picaboo for my Mom & Dad. Picaboo has a free download you use to design your book and then you can print the pages on your own computer or for a fee they will make either a soft cover or hard cover bound book. Right now I am working on a 20 page soft cover book for my folks of their grand kids. They have a ton of templates, backgrounds and corners. Page templates range from one photo up to a collage with over 10 photos. The program is very easy to learn and use. You can save your work as you go, so I am working on it in little chunks. I think I will print out some pages and use them on some of my scrapbook pages for my self. This is a nice gift that won't cost you a fortune. Go check out there site and see for yourself.

Free Image & Photo Editing Software
As someone who loves to scrapbook I also love to learn to do new things to expand my scrapping horizons. So I have been starting to study up on digital scrapbooking. Digital scrapbooking can be quit involved or very easy depending on how much you want to do. So I started looking into photo editing software. There are a lot out there, ones such as PaintShop and PhotoShop are quit expensive and do a lot of things. Awhile back I tried a free 30 day download of PaintShop Pro. It is a nice program if I had a clue what I was doing (I didn't & 30 days was not enough time to learn). So I went on a quest to find some free programs to edit my photos and found some very nice programs. The first one I downloaded was PhotoPlus 6.0. This program is a pretty basic photo editing program that does quit a bit of things and is not as hard to learn as some of the big programs. Though all these programs do have some sort of learning curve and takes some time to figure out. What I do is just start playing around to see what I can do. The second program I downloaded was Gimp 2. This is a wonderful program very similar to Photo Shop. In fact I used some of the PhotoShop tutorials on the web to help me do some of my editing and found Gimp was set up very close to PhotoShop. I also bought a book on PhotoShop 7 at Hastings bookstores for $1.99. It has been a super help. This program is quickly becoming my favorite. It cam also support some of PhotoShop plug ins. I really like the fact that these are FREE and so far no nasty adware or spyware has popped up due to the downloads. So if you want to venture into more in depth digital scrapbooking I recommend trying out these programs. They are free so you have nothing to lose. Here are the links so you can check them out for yourself:

Fab Freebie!!!
As I was scouting around the web in search for fabulous things for scrapbooking I ran across a free software download called The Framing Station. With this software you can take one of your photos and put a nice frame around it. Your asking "How would this be useful to me??" It has tons of scrappin uses if you think about it. First make a framed photo, print it out and use it on you paper scrapbook. Or you can use it in a digital scrapbook also. One of the ways I am going to use it is to make photo Christmas card, just like the ones they make at Walmart only free (except for the ink of course). This program makes frames for a variety of photo sizes, from 4x6 all the way up to 8x10. You could make an 8x10 and frame it for a nice gift. I know my parents would love one of the grandkids. The 4x6 size is perfect for postcards too. This picture is an example of a birthday invitation for my daughters birthday party. I will just write the party info on the back and send.
It is simple to use. I added the text "Time to Party" You do not have to know how to digital scrapbook to use this program. When you click on Update the program it takes you to the web site and there are more free frames to download. They also sell packs of frames to buy if you want. There are so many free ones I'm not going to buy any for what I want to do. Just takes a little time to download them. Here is the link so you can check it out for your self!! (This is not the official web page just a download site)

Digital Collection Addiction
As a scrapper I think we are prone to collecting things for scrapbooking. I almost love the collecting as much as I love to scrap. Digital scrapbooking "supplies" as you might say are VERY addicting because there are so many you can download for free. I have a wonderful collection all organized into categories. As a paper scrapper mostly I love to print out the paper and embellishments and use them on my paper pages. They are nice or nicer than store bought and free. It does take a little time to cut them out but not much. Sometimes I print them on paper made for labels and use them as stickers. I have joined some wonderful forms and am learning to digital scrapbook as I collect freebies. Here are a few of my favs:

Simple Way to Print Your Graphics
You do not have to be a digital scrapbooker to use digital scrapbook elements. There are a ton of digital scrapbooking freebies out there and paper scrappers should be taking advantage to make paper elements for their pages. I found a great tutorial on printing your graphics using the print wizard in Windows XP. It was a kind of "AH HAH" moment for me when I read it. I realized I need to be printing some of my own things to use on my pages. I hope this will help you expand your horizons also. Here is the link:
